Hometown Highlights: Huntsville, AL

Sep 26, 2025

Who said vacations had to be to far off destinations? Find relaxation and fun close to home! Huntsville has the sights, flavors, and entertainment to make a vacation worth writing home about. In this post, we’re going to highlight places to stay, things to do, and bites to savor.

As your travel agents, we want to make sure your vacation experience starts from the minute you put your bags down. Let us show you why Huntsville, AL should be added to your bucket list!

106 Jefferson – Downtown

If you’re staying in the Downtown area, we highly recommend 106 Jefferson. It’s located centrally within downtown with short walks to the VBC and the square. Its beautiful atmosphere gives art deco while maintaining all modern amenities. The amenities would be considered moderate. They’re wonderful, but they don’t stand miles above any other typical hotel.

Baker and Able

At the very top of the hotel, you have the rooftop bar called Baker & Able. With a theme of jazz lounge, monkeys, and foliage, it sounds like it would be chaotic. However, they have blended these themes together beautifully. The outdoor portion looks out onto Huntsville. The rooftop doesn’t show much during the day. The view is very industrial because of its location downtown, but at night, it literally lights up Huntsville. Thankfully, the cocktails are just as good as they look! We know because we tried them all.

The Revivalist

The hotel houses The Revivalist restaurant. We absolutely recommend you eat at the hotel if you stay here! The service was excellent, the food as delicious, and the atmosphere is upscale. It’s priced upscale as well. However, the experience of the establishment is worth the price, in our opinion.

Toyota Field – MidCity

Huntsville absolutely loves cheering on Huntsville! We all know the Trash Panda is technically a raccoon, but you won’t catch one calling it anything but a Trash Panda. These tickets are normally very cheap. You can get cheap tickets, drink wine out of a can, and eat hotdogs until you can’t move. Honestly, we struggle to think of a better way to spend the evening.

If you want to do something a little more unique, look for theme nights for certain Trash Panda games! They often do themes like Star Wars, Margaritaville, Anime. These theme nights celebrate the many people that make Huntsville so different and so bonded at the same time. One thing Toyota Field specializes in is flair!

Kamado Ramen and The Camp – MidCity

If you’re already in MidCity, don’t forget to sample the food around you. If you’re in the mood for lounging outdoors under the stars, The Camp is the destination for you! The Camp has its own events list. They do trivia, Octoberfest, Halloween parties and so much more. You can lounge around, try local brews, and, hopefully, see all the dogs that have been brought along by their owners.

Want something a little more warm and comforting? There are few things as comforting as a steaming bowl of ramen. While there are a few Kamado Ramen locations, MidCity is by far our favorite. Since you’re in MidCity, feel free to get a purple cup for your drink and walk around to see all the little shops the community has lining the streets.

Color Me Mine – MidCity

Personally, one of the best date nights can be found in MidCity. It’s sometimes hard to find a place that lets your creativity flow. Drink drinks and snacks of your choice and head to Color Me Mine. It’s a pottery painting location.

You pick the piece of pottery, pick your colors, and start painting. They don’t sell alcohol, but as we said, it’s absolutely BYOB. You don’t pay to paint. You simply pay for the pottery piece that stands out to you. It takes awhile to get them back, but your creation can be taken home and kept as a memory of your date or girls’ night out!

VBC – Downtown

The mecca of entertainment in Huntsville is the Von Braun Center. Located in Downtown, the stadium always has something to do. Want to see a concert? They’ve had names like Bowling for Soup, Breaking Benjamin, and Jesse McCartney.

If concerts aren’t your thing, maybe sports are better. The local hockey team, The Huntsville Havocs, play their season within the VBC. Tickets for these games are also pretty cheap. You can watch a hockey game and cheer for Huntsville sometimes for as low as $30 a ticket. It leaves money leftover so you can grab your Huntsville Havocs merchandise from the lobby.

Campus 805 – South Huntsville

If you can’t decide what you want to do, we recommend Campus 805. Campus 805 converted the old Huntsville High School into a mini entertainment district. The venue houses so many options for spending your day or night. Feel like eating? There’s Straight to Ale and Hops and Guac. If you’re looking to drink and hangout with your group, there’s Lone Goose and Yellowhammer. Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer are true locals and offer some of the local brews in Huntsville (maybe even Alabama).

Feel like doing some activities? You can take your anger out by ax throwing or get a permanent memory by getting a tattoo. There’s always karaoke, events, vendors, and more!

There’s always something to do in Huntsville! Your trip can truly be whatever you make it. You can set the pace, the itinerary, and the vibe of you’re entire vacation. Let our agency help you create your trip. As Huntsville locals, we would be honored to show you the city we love, and hopefully, let you fall in love with it, too.
